Lung Association Reacts to TLC Vote to Increase MPG Standards
NEW YORK, NY (12/11/2007)(readMedia)-- In response to today’s vote by the Taxi and Limousine Commission to increase the minimum miles per gallon standards for taxicabs, American Lung Association of the City of New York President & CEO Louise Vetter stated the following:
We applaud today’s vote by the TLC to increase the miles per gallon standards for taxicabs. Vehicles with greater fuel efficiency emit fewer toxic vapors, and we must do everything we can to ensure that these cleaner taxis are on our streets. By increasing mile per gallon standards in conjunction with using hybrid electric vehicles, we can greatly reduce emissions and thereby reduce the toll that poor air takes on lung health. The American Lung Association of the City of New York is pleased to work with the Taxi and Limousine Commission and our elected leadership to clean up our taxicab fleet so that all New York City residents can breathe easier.
