DECORAH, IA (04/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Alison Scheevel, a Luther College senior from Preston, Minn., will perform a flute recital Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at Greenleafton Reformed Church, 15502 County 9, Preston, Minn.
Scheevel, the daughter of Kenric and Karen Scheevel of Preston, is majoring in music at Luther. She is a 2008 graduate of Fillmore Central High School.
Scheevel will perform works by Jacob do Bandolim, Claude Bolling, Michael Colquhoun and Pierre Sancan.
A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.
Scheevel is a student of Carol Hester, Luther professor of music. She will be accompanied by Luther junior Stephen Uhl, piano; Luther sophomore Ted Olsen, bass; and Luther senior Collin Meyer, drums.
Located in Decorah, Iowa, Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.
Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
