MANCHESTER, NH (05/28/2013)(readMedia)-- Lynn, Mass., resident Jennifer Pace graduated cum laude from Saint Anselm College on Saturday, May 18 and prepares for Ph.D. program at the University of Connecticut.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry, Pace's undergraduate education involved significant time in the lab. Summer 2012 she conducted research on malaria cures at Dartmouth College through the iSERF program, a branch of the NH-INBRE grant, a statewide program aimed at engaging students in biomedical research. She was one of eight students selected in the state to study at Dartmouth College.

During her senior year at Saint Anselm, she synthesized 10 brand new molecules that currently only exist at the college. She presented her research at the college's SOAR Program, a series that showcases outstanding research and artwork by Saint Anselm students across disciplines.

Pace will continue her education at the University of Connecticut, earning a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences with a concentration in medicinal chemistry. Moving to Connecticut in July, she will begin working in the laboratory with Dr. Kyle Hadden, on organic synthesis and evaluation of compounds for treatments of cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

"I hope to continue doing research in this field to help many people by preventing or curing a disease. When I got to St. A's, I knew I wanted to help people but I knew I could never be a doctor or a nurse. Getting involved in undergraduate research made me realize that I could help people in many other ways. I also hope to become a professor or a teacher. I want to inspire future generations just as my professors at St. A's inspired me."

At Saint Anselm College's 120th commencement exercises, Pace was one of 426 members of the class of 2013. Commencement speaker Louis Freeh, former FBI director, addressed the class.

Saint Anselm College is a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college in Manchester, N.H.
