COLCHESTER, VT (11/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Meghan A. Sweezey, school counselor and creator of Girls Skills Clinic for ice hockey players, has been named Saint Michael's College Assistant Director for Alumni and Parent Relations. Ms. Sweezey, a 2010 graduate of Saint Michael's, began at the college November 26, where she will concentrate on outreach to alumni.

"I grew so much as a Saint Michael's student-now I want to use my skills to help build relationships for the college," Ms. Sweezey said.

Ms. Sweezey, a resident of Colchester, earned her SMC bachelor's degree in psychology and in English in 2010. She earned a master's degree in school counseling and a college admissions counseling certificate in 2012 from Suffolk University. She worked from August 2011 to June of 2012 as a school counseling intern at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School in Hamilton, Mass. And during the same period she was a graduate fellow in the financial aid office of Suffolk University.

Ms. Sweezey will be working to organize events for SMC alumni on campus and in various locations around New England. She will also work with outreach to alumni who were SMC athletes when they were students.

Passionate for Ice Hockey

A varsity ice hockey player for Saint Michael's, Ms. Sweezey was assistant captain from 2007-2009 and captain from 2009-2010. Her passion for ice hockey led her to create the Girls Skills Clinic in Reading, Mass., for girls ages five to 14, that ran during the summer of 2012. As sole proprietor and head coach, she handled all the details-securing ice time, buying insurance, marketing, and hiring additional coaches-and she covered her costs. She was also head coach of the junior varsity girl's ice hockey team and assistant coach of the varsity girl's ice hockey team for Reading Memorial High School from 2010 to 2012.

"I've only been here three days, but I already feel like I've been here a while," Ms. Sweezey said. And she has already arranged to help when possible with the SMC women's ice hockey team.

Ms. Sweezey is the daughter of Bob and Suzi Sweezey of Lynnfield, Mass.
