MEDIA ADVISORY: Event at Schoharie Crossing

WHERE: Schoharie Crossing Historic Site,

Corner of East Church Street and Main Street, Fort Hunter, Montgomery County.

WHAT: There will be an announcement of new state assistance for the site along the historic Erie Canal. State Canal Director Brian U. Stratton will be joined by Alane Ball-Chinian, regional director of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Also, volunteers will be cleaning out the historic Old Erie Empire Lock (#29), located along the Towpath Trail as part of the annual statewide Canal Clean Sweep campaign.

CANAL CLEAN SWEEP: As part of the annual celebration of Earth Day, volunteers from nearly 100 organizations statewide team up with Parks & Trails New York, the New York State Canal Corporation, and the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, to clean up and improve the lands around the Canal system, scheduled to reopen for navigation on May 1, 2012.
