MANKATO, MN (01/14/2010)(readMedia)-- The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) is reminding wheat producers in the state that voting starts tomorrow for the wheat checkoff referendum.
"It's important for all producers in Minnesota to take an active role in ensuring a bright future for every commodity they produce," says MSGA President Bill Zurn of Callaway, Minn. "As a wheat producer myself, I plan to support the proposed increase since I believe there is a need for more research and market development."
The Minnesota Wheat Research & Promotion Council is proposing to change the current checkoff amount from one to two cents per bushel. Voting will begin Friday, January 15th at the VFW in Dawson (8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) and the Meeker County Courthouse in Litchfield (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) Both locations are also part of the 2010 Southern Wheat Tour, which will help farmers who are considering raising wheat determine if the crop will work on their farm and then give them the tools for growing a profitable crop.
