UTICA, NY (01/20/2014)(readMedia)-- The Mohawk Valley Community College women's soccer team remains on of the top powerhouses in the nation following the Hawks' return trip to the national championship game this past November.
This performance lead to top honors for the Hawks' Silvana Giovannone as she was named Second Team All-American for the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III women's soccer. Giovannone was the second leading scorer in the nation with 24 goals and nine assists as the Hawks reached the national championship game for the second consecutive year, only to fall to Brookdale Community College.
She was responsible for the Hawks earning an 16-3-1 records by tallying 57 points, the next closest player having just 43 points. Other honors Giovannone received this year include Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Region III in the NJCAA.
Giovannone is a sophomore General Studies Major from Scotia High School.
