AUGUSTA, ME (04/07/2016)(readMedia)-- The Maine Army National Guard hosted two career exploration exhibits for Maine high school students in Bangor and Brunswick today in order to explore Guard career options that support college aspirations and direct skills for the workforce.
The expo drew a crowd of over 300 students and faculty at both locations. Students and teachers were free to explore all of the exhibits, featuring state of the art equipment and military service members that serve in each of the represented career fields to share information.
Exhibits included equipment and personnel from aviation, engineering and construction, medical services, transportation, information technology, food service and culinary arts, law enforcement, as well as maintenance trades.
"Today we had the opportunity to showcase a few of the career fields available and speak to the next generation," said Lt. Col. Michael R. Steinbuchel, recruiting and retention battalion commander. "We take already talented young men and women and transform them from citizen to soldier enabling them to meet their goals and improve our ability to respond to the State and Nation during times of need."
Dave Minott, auto motive technology instructor attended the event and said, "The students get to see more of a broad picture of what goes on in the National Guard, and the different areas of trade, it's important for them to see all the benefits and opportunities available to them. It's a well-organized event."
Today's expo highlighted more than new equipment and opportunities to participate in exciting, real world missions, Steinbuchel said. It's all about the people with whom they serve. "It is our people who make us what we are," Steinbuchel said.
