AUGUSTA, ME (05/20/2011)(readMedia)-- Five Maine Army Soldiers are going to run "The 21 Run Salute" as part of a 13 Soldier team beginning on Monday, May 23, 2011 in Washington D.C.
Headed by Col. Jack Mosher the team is comprised of Lt. Col. John Beatty, Lt. Col. Diane Dunn, First Sgt. John Brooks and Lt. Col. Dwaine Drummond. This five day event is a 550.2 mile ultra run on the Washington, D.C. Capitol Mall advocating health awareness and risk reduction in our Veteran, Family member and Youth populations.
The Resiliency Run 2011 is the second annual event of the OneLifeWarrior.org Campaign where athletes complete 21 individual back to back marathons in five days by running around the clock. Each athlete will run his or her full 26.2 mile marathon during a six hour period until an unbroken chain of 21 marathons is complete at 550.2 total miles.
"We want Soldiers to recognize their personal responsibility for their health and those they love, to be able to live their lives to the greatest potential. Our nation expects it. You can't be the next greatest generation if you can't get off the couch" said Mosher. OneLifeWarrior advocates an unapologetic approach to living through Health Awareness and Risk Reduction in overcoming the challenges of life.
The marathon has long been an enduring symbol of Resilience and personal health, and serves well as a central, action based brand. The alignment of 21 marathons over a five day running vigil is designed to symbolically resonate with the high honor of the 21 Gun Salute on Memorial Day at Arlington.
OneLifeWarrior.org will serve as a primary source for information and messaging of a daily blog as the campaign begins on 23 May 2011. Designated runners will post pre and post run video messages, while updating their status during the course of the run.
