SYRACUSE, NY (08/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Manlius resident Kevin Bradley, a Delta Airlines pilot, has been promoted to brigadier general (one-star) in the New York Air National Guard.

Bradley, a past commander of the 174th Fighter Wing at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, was promoted to his new rank by Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, on Friday, August 24. He now serves as Assistant Adjutant General, Air, for the New York National Guard.

New York's Air National Guard, with five wings, the Eastern Air Defense Sector, and almost 6,000 members, is the largest state Air National Guard in the United States.

Bradley, a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War , has flown combat missions in support of Operation Provide Comfort, Operation Northern Watch, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He served in the Active Air Force from 1984 to 1992 prior to joining the National Guard.

He was the commander of the 174th Fighter wing from May of 2008 until March of this year. During that period the wing transitioned from flying F-16 fighter-bombers to operating the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft. The wing controls aircraft flying operational mission in Afghanistan from a control center in Syracuse and also trains MQ-9 mechanics and pilots and sensor operators for the Air Force.

Bradley joined the New York Air National Guard in 1992 and has commanded frontline combat units at the squadron, group and wing level. He has served at the National Guard Bureau and the Headquarters United States Air Force. General Bradley is a command pilot with over 3500 hours in the T-37, T-38, and F-16 and MQ-9 aircraft.

Bradley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a Masters of Business Administration from Columbia College. He is also a graduate of the Air War College.

Bradley's awards include the Bronze Star medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, the Southwest Asian Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
