EAST GREENBUSH, NY (02/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Maple Ski Ridge goes Green February 4th & 5th as they take up the fight with The Green Drakkoman Foundation against childhood cancer.

Maple Ski Ridge is teaming up with The Green Drakkoman Foundation to turn the ridge green in a 24 hour ski and snowboarding marathon. This is a Ski or Snowboard marathon that challenges participants to compete for the most runs to raise funds for The Green Drakkoman Foundation. This event has created a lot of support and Maple will be offering 2 hour and 7 hour events so that all ages can participate in the event.

The Green Drakkoman foundation is not a group of retired super heroes but a group of LOCAL people who knew and loved a little child who lost his battle with childhood cancer. A little child named Ben Stowell, created more in his short life with motivation and dedication each day as he fought his fight against a faceless disease. Ben Stowell's vision and own hand created the character that is the logo for the drakkomanfoundation and serves as an inspiration to his courage.

This year Maple Ski Ridge is asking everyone to battle childhood cancer as they take ski or snowboard runs that share in Ben's honor as they turn the Ridge Green for the Day. Ben Stowell's courage and ability to motivate his friends and family inspired the Maple Ski Ridge family to join in the fight.

"This allows the very young and those who are short on time to join in the festivities and help the cause," states Kate Michener, special events coordinator at Maple Ski Ridge. "Since our business here primarily deals with children this also lets us follow our hearts. The Challenge starts at noon on Saturday the 4th and ends Sunday the 5th. All 24 hour participants are treated to a buffet dinner, midnight snacks and breakfast. Some of the food is donated by our suppliers. Every year they (suppliers and skiers) ask if we are still doing our 24 hour event, they want to support us because they like to support the local community and are just good at heart. We don't want anyone to worry because we also make sure the kids stay hydrated. The volunteer ski patrol is on duty for the entire event and the area is monitored both inside and out. The kids that attend the event are watched after and treated as our own, some of them even are our own children".

Registration and donation forms can be found on http://winter.mapleskiridge.com/terrain-park/ or call the lodge at 518-381-4700.
