HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College senior Marlowe J. Vilchez received the Robert H. Porterfield '29 Drama Award, presented by Professor Shirley Kagan, Elliott Professor of Theatre. The Porterfield Award, established in memory of a distinguished alumnus and founder of the Barter Theater in Abington, Virginia, is presented to the student who has made the greatest contribution to the community through theatre arts.
A Patrick Henry Scholar, Marlowe has served as President of the French Club and Secretary-Treasurer of the Unity Alliance. He is a member of the Jongleurs (a theatre arts group), the Hampden-Sydney Men's Chorus, the Animation Society, the Pre-Health Society, and the Pre-Law Society. He has been inducted into the honor societies Psi Chi (psychology) and Sigma Tau Delta (English). A fine arts-theatre and psychology major, Marlowe graduated from High Point High School and is the son of Ms. Kasandra V. Vilchez of Riverdale.
