Mary Maybee Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Mary Maybee of Boone as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.

Mary Maybee is enthusiastic, dedicated and a great asset to her community. For six years, she headed the local efforts for Daffodil Days and fundraises for the American Cancer Society. Maybee is the Co-President of the Boone Women's Club, President of the Boone Golf and Country Club, works with the United Way, Daughters of the American Revolution and Chairwoman for many church events and programs.

Maybee is passionate about youth in her community. She helped start the Boone Community Theatre and originated the Boone Summer Theatre Workshop. In addition, Maybee helps plan the annual community Pufferbilly Days celebration, is involved in many church committees, Relay for Life, Community Betterment, Boone Jaycees, Boone County YMCA Board and the State of Iowa Advisory Council.

"There are no hurdles Mary won't attempt. Mary is an Iowan who brightens the lives of those around her," said Carol Robinson, Finance Manager/Secretary of the Boone Chamber of Commerce and friend of Maybee. Maybee's compassion and hard work ethic makes her a great 2012 Iowan of the Day recipient.

Maybee's day of recognition will be Tuesday, August 14 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Maybee will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 14 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
