Mateo Villa receives individual U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-academic honors
Senior Mateo Villa of the Oglethorpe University men's cross country team earned individual all-academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.
This honor marked the first such award of Villa's career. A physics/engineering major, Villa is from Saint Johns, FL and is a graduate of Creekside High School.
Villa garnered his first career All-Region honor during the fall, finishing 31st at the regional meet with a time of 26 minutes, 5.1 seconds on the 8-kilometer course in Memphis. It marked the program's second consecutive All-Region honor and served as an excellent cap to Villa's outstanding cross country career, which featured a pair of All-SAA honors in 2017 and 2018.
Villa served as one of 309 individuals to earn USTFCCCA all-academic honors, for which runners had to accrue a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. Villa's team was also named among the the all-academic squads in Division III.
