Matthew Seklecki of of Vineyard Haven, Mass., named admission counselor for Saint Michael's College

COLCHESTER, VT (07/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Matthew M. Seklecki, cum laude 2011 graduate from Saint Michael's College with a degree in both history and political science, and winner of the Father Prevel Memorial Award given to the top male graduate each year, was named Admission Counselor for Saint Michael's College. Seklecki started his job as official representative and recruiter for the college this month.
A volunteer for the SMC admission office for three years as a student, Seklecki said, "I loved that work, I came to understand the importance of a college visit as I gave visitors campus tours; I really wanted to continue this work."
"I want to spread the word to the rest of the country about Saint Michael's," Seklecki added. His position will include travelling to tell the Saint Michael's story at high schools and college fairs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Seklecki was a class officer at Saint Michael's from 2007-2009, serving as treasurer and vice president of his class, and was a member of the Student Association Executive Board, serving as co-secretary of programming from 2009-2011. During that time he was student liaison to the SMC Board of Trustees. He was also a resident assistant (RA) for two years and an apartment community adviser in his senior year, overseeing the well being of 80-100 upper-level students in the townhouse apartments.
Seklecki made the Dean's List every semester, was in the honors program, was recipient of an SMC Book Award Scholarship for four years, and was inducted into the political science and the history honor societies. He presented his senior thesis in history, "Ethan Allen's Contributions to Vermont," to a program at Vermont's Ethan Allen Homestead.
Matthew Seklecki is the son of Dan Seklecki and Cathy MacDonald of Vineyard Haven, Mass. He now resides in Burlington.
