ANGOLA (10/18/2017) A successful university fundraising professional with ties to Steuben County has been hired as vice president for development at Trine University.

Lisa Maxwell-Frieden, J.D., comes to Trine from Butler University in Indianapolis, where she has served as director of gift planning since 2013. While at Butler, she has played a key role in two consecutive years of record-setting results for the university, with about $45 million raised in the 2016 fiscal year.

"Lisa has a proven track record of success in working with major gifts, complex gifts and planned gifts as well as leading teams of skilled fundraising professionals," said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine University president. "We are excited at the experience and the knowledge base she will bring to this critical role at Trine University."

Prior to working at Butler, Maxwell-Frieden served as director of gift planning at DePauw University in Greencastle, where she was a key player in the silent phase of the university's comprehensive gift campaign.

For 11 years, she was lead attorney in the Estate Planning Division of O'Koon Hintermeister, PLLC, in Indianapolis, where she worked with clients of all asset levels to craft individual estate plans that were tax advantageous and met their personal needs.

"We look forward to the benefit Lisa's extensive background in estate planning will offer, not only to Trine University, but to the many generous supporters of its mission and vision," said Dr. Rick L. James, chair of the Trine University Board of Trustees.

Maxwell-Frieden's family has owned a cottage on Lake George in Angola since 1947.

"Angola is a second home to me and I am deeply committed to the community of Steuben County and to the cultural center of town, Trine University," she said. "From exceptional leadership to a visionary Cooperative Education program, Trine is a place with a deep history and a tremendous future that inspires me."

She holds her Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Arts in history from Indiana University.
