McMurry War Hawks Everett Earns ASC Weekly Honor

For the second time this season, McMurry University women's track and field standout Bethany Everett (Stratford, Texas/Stratford H.S.) has been named as the American Southwest Conference Field Events "Athlete of the Week," it was announced by the league office. Everett was also named as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) "Student-Athlete of the Week" for field events, after her personal record effort in the weight throw at the Texas Tech Open last weekend.

Everett also earned the ASC weekly honor back on January 23. Ironically, McM was also at Texas Tech - at the Red Raider Invitational - that week, as Everett smashed her personal best mark that meet, as well.

At last weekend's Tech Open, Everett had a toss of 16.14 meters (52'-11.50") - eclipsing her previous best by 1'-3.00" - to finish third out of 32 competitors. Everett's effort has the leading throw in the American Southwest Conference, the NCCAA and the NCAA Division III South/Southwest regional rankings.

But McM head coach Brad Parris isn't surprised by Everett's successes, given her work ethic.

"Bethany is truly amazing," Parris said. "She is juggling and incredible pre-pharmacy lab and class schedule, while maintaining the sharpest focus in the throwing ring. She truly deserves every accolade she collects."
