Erie Canal Opens Early at Lock 2 in Waterford
WATERFORD, NY (04/27/2012)(readMedia)-- WHAT: The New York State Canal system opens ahead of schedule
WHEN: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012
WHERE: Erie Canal Lock 2 in Waterford
WHO: Canal Director Brian U. Stratton, plus state and local officials.
WHY: The Erie Canal will open ahead of schedule at the above time/date.
The traditional opening day for the Canal system is May 1. The Cayuga-Seneca Canal and the Oswego Canal also will open April 28. The Champlain Canal is scheduled to open, Sunday, April 29.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS to Lock 2 in Waterford: Travel north on Route 787 to the end in Cohoes. Turn right (north) on Route 32 (Saratoga Street) into Waterford. Cross the bridge over the Erie Canal. Bear right onto Broad Street. Pass through the traffic light and cross over old Champlain Canal. Take an immediate right onto the Lock 2 access road.
