Media Advisory: Downtown Albany Earth Day Event
ALBANY, NY (04/17/2008)(readMedia)-- New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Acting President Matthew Millea and City of Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings will kick off a storm drain marking event in downtown Albany on April 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. This event will commemorate Earth Day and help raise awareness of protecting the Hudson River from stormwater pollution.
Mr. Millea and Mr. Jennings will mark the first storm drain at the corner of North Pearl and Orange Streets, and a group of volunteers will then proceed south on Pearl Street to mark additional drains. The drains will be marked with brightly colored plastic medallions that read “Don’t Dump: Drains to Hudson River.”
EFC is coordinating the Earth Day event with the City of Albany, the City of Albany Water and Water Supply Department, the Albany County Intermunicipal Stormwater Committee, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The storm drain markers are being provided by the Hudson River Estuary Program and the Albany County Intermunicipal Stormwater Committee. The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District is assisting with the event.
