WHAT: Memorial Day Weekend STOP-DWI Crackdown
WHEN: May 21 - May 25
WHERE: Statewide Enforcement
NOTES: This is the third of seven STOP-DWI crackdown periods across the state this year. During the enforcement wave, local law enforcement agencies state-wide will be out in force, utilizing sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, to deter drunk driving and ensure the safety of our roadways. STOP-DWI, or "Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Intoxicated," is a comprehensive and financially self-sustaining highway safety program. All 62 counties are participating in the program, which allows each to establish a STOP-DWI Program that qualifies for the return of all fines collected for alcohol and other drug-related traffic offenses occurring within its jurisdiction.
The first two STOP-DWI crackdown periods of 2009 were January 26 -February 2 for Super Bowl Sunday and March 9 - March 17 for St. Patrick's Day. The remaining crackdown periods for this year are: June 21 - July 5:, Fourth of July; August 21 - September 7: National Over the Limit-Under Arrest Enforcement; October 25 - October 31: Halloween; and November 20 - January 2: Holiday Season.
