Completion of Dredging Project Opens Way to Economic Development
The New York State Canal Corporation will hold a news conference at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Canal Corporation Harbor Maintenance Facility in Utica. (See directions below.)
Canal Corporation Director Carmella R. Mantello will join with state and local officials and canal enthusiasts to announce the completion of dredging of the harbor.
The Utica Harbor Lock repairs were completed in August and the lock opened, which allowed dredging to occur for the first time in 30 years. The dredging will help allow use of the harbor for future recreational, tourism and economic development opportunities.
