Zeldin Joins fellow Iraq war Veterans

PATCHOGUE, NY (09/17/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican and Conservative Party candidate for New York's First Congressional District, Lee Zeldin, will attend a September 17 press conference at Upper Senate Park in Washington D.C. at 10:00 a.m. Lee Zeldin will be attending with 17 other Iraq war veteran congressional candidates, and Vets for Freedom, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating policymakers and the American public about the strategic importance of the success in Iraq.

The event will be the largest gathering of Iraq and Afghanistan veteran candidates to date, as Vets for Freedom will stand with 17 congressional candidates from both sides of the aisle and two generations of the American warrior class - those who wear the uniform and return home to serve in public office. Current congressmen such as Reps. Jim Marshall (D-GA) and Heather Wilson (R-NM), who have been fierce advocates for victory as Members of Congress, stand alongside the next generation of warrior-leaders in the United State Congress.

Lee Zeldin will express his support for a recently dropped House Resolution which states that the surge in Iraq was successful and acknowledges that the success is a result of the strategy and the troops. The resolution was sponsored on September 16th, 2008 by Reps. Jim Marshall (D-GA) and Heather Wilson (R-NM), and is the counterpart to Senate Resolution 636, which currently has 33 co-sponsors in the Senate including John Cornyn (R-TX) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK), two Senators endorsed by Vets for Freedom.
