Blasting Work Scheduled at Erie Canal Lock 6 (Lock E-6) in the Town of Waterford

ALBANY, NY (12/04/2008)(readMedia)-- The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that blasting work is scheduled to take place at Erie Canal Lock 6 (Lock E-6) in the Town of Waterford beginning Monday, December 8, 2008. Two blasts are expected to occur each day, Monday through Saturday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The blasting is expected to last no longer than two weeks.

The blasting work is necessary in order to fully rehabilitate the concrete chamber walls at Lock E-6. The work is being done by Kubricky Construction of Glens Falls, New York, who was awarded the $14,956,574 contract to rehabilitate the entire lock. The work includes installing new miter gates, refacing chamber walls, electrical and machinery rehabilitation, and rewiring Guard Gates 1 and 2. The work is scheduled for completion in June 2010.

The Corporation appreciates the public's patience while this essential project moves forward. The Corporation doesn't anticipate any disruptions to surrounding residents in the Town of Waterford.
