Mendelssohn Club Concert to Benefit Humane Society

ALBANY, NY (04/30/2008)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16th at The Egg in Albany, NY. The Club also announced that it will contribute a portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society (MHRHS).

The 99th annual spring concert – Great American Songwriters -- will feature famous Broadway musical selections by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and George Gershwin. Saratoga’s own Sarah Pedinotti Band will be featured as the Club’s special guest artist for the evening.

“We are very excited about our upcoming spring concert and the opportunity to help support the good work of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society,” said Mendelssohn Club president, Dr. Carl Wirth. “The combination of well-known Broadway classics and our very talented guest artist, Sarah Pedinotti, should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience to enjoy while supporting a very worthy cause.”

Brad Shear, Executive Director of MHRHS, is also excited about this event, “Collaboration is the key to any successful venture. Each day, the Society works with the public, municipalities and other animal protection groups to provide the best care for lost and abandoned pets.” He adds, “We are very pleased to have been selected as the recipient of the Mendelssohn Club’s generosity, and we are looking forward to the concert. As the oldest and largest animal protection organization in the Capital Region, we are proud to work with the oldest performing arts group in the region.”

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 75-voice male chorus is the area’s longest continuously performing arts group. The Club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Dr. Victor Klimash. A faculty member at Union College, Dr. Klimash holds a Doctor of Music in Voice from Florida State University, and a Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Voice from The Eastman School of Music. Pianist Michael Clement serves as the Club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.

About the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society: An animal care center that has been in continuous operation since 1887, MHRHS provides professional, compassionate care to thousands of lost, abused and abandoned animals each year within the Capital Region. It is the largest animal welfare organization in the Capital Region and contracts with 12 municipalities to house stray animals. MHRHS serves as the ASPCA for Albany and Rensselaer counties, providing cruelty investigations.
