ST. LOUIS, MO (06/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Missouri Baptist University's Alumni Association recently honored outstanding alumni who have made a significant impact in their communities and made efforts to improve society. Honorees were selected by the Alumni Board of Governors and recognized at MBU's Alumni Chapel service.
Merry Smith of St. Louis, Mo., received the 2012 Distinguished Alumni award. Following the loss of her first husband and 2-year-old son, Smith took steps toward helping others who face the devastating loss of loved ones.
For the past 12 years, through her work at Mid-America Transplant Services, Smith has had the opportunity to share her personal story and the positive impact organ and tissue donation has had in her life as well as develop and implement bereavement support programs for those facing a loss.
In addition to holding two degrees from MBU – a B.S. in Business Administration ('00) and an MBA ('11) – Smith is also a Licensed Practical Nurse, holds a certification in Thanatology (death, dying and bereavement) from the Association of Death Education and Counseling, and a certification in Death and Grief Studies ('12) from Colorado State University.
