MIDDLE COUNTRY, NY (03/21/2019) (readMedia)-- CSEA members from the Middle Country School District Transportation Unit attended a recent Middle Country School Board meeting in an effort to thwart the school board's plans to outsource more than 65 CSEA represented school bus driver positions.

CSEA Middle Country School Bus Drivers made compelling arguements for why outsourcing is a critical misstep that will negatively impact the community:

"Outside contractors will not protect our Middle Country School District kids the way we do," said CSEA Middle Country School District Transportation Unit President John Meyer. "We are not just bus drivers, we are like a parent, a friend and even a nurse to our kids."

"Outsourcing could lead to contracts with hidden costs," said Middle Country School Bus Driver Angela McHale. "Extra expenses for field trips, special needs students and rising fuel costs could cost the district 10 to 20 percent more than what is budgetarily anticipated."

CSEA Middle Country School Bus Drivers are encouraging community members to support them at the next Middle Country Board of Education meeting at Centereach High School on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 7 p.m.
