Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Reelects Officers & ASA Director

MANKATO, MN (06/18/2009)(readMedia)-- The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) board of directors held officer and ASA director elections on Wednesday. All officers were reelected and Barb Overlie of Lake Crystal, Minn. was elected to serve a third term on the American Soybean Association (ASA) board.

MSGA officers include President Bill Zurn of Callaway; Vice President Kurt Krueger of Rothsay; Treasurer Bill Gordon of Worthington; and Secretary Bruce Schmoll of Claremont.

Zurn has served as MSGA's president since January, when he took over the vacant president's position. He has held several positions within MSGA and plays an active role on many program committees. Zurn was instrumental in working with Congressman Collin Peterson on the 2008 Farm Bill and is currently engaged in indirect land use issues and climate change legislation.

"I am honored to continue working on policy issues that are important to Minnesota's soybean farmers," said Zurn. "I believe the next few years will be critical to the future of agriculture. It will be more important than ever that ag is at the table as lawmakers and government agencies make decisions regarding land use, water quality and renewable energy."

Zurn, his wife Karolyn and their sons grow soybeans, sugar beets, corn and wheat on their farm in Becker County.

MSGA is a non-profit, farmer-controlled membership organization established in 1962. Its goal is to assure profitable soybean farming by influencing favorable ag legislation, monitoring government policies and supporting research and market development activities.
