BATAVIA, NY (06/30/2015)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College men's basketball guard Ervin Mitchell (Brooklyn, NY) was named the Senior Male Athlete of the Year by the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) for 2014-2015.

Mitchell became the 10th player in GCC men's basketball history to garner NJCAA All-American honors as he was named to the All-American Second Team this past season. He was also an All-Region III First Team selection and named all-state by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) this year.

He leaves GCC as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1476 points. He tallied 723 points in his freshman campaign and 753 points as a sophomore this year.

Mitchell played in and started 32 games this season for the Cougars and averaged 23.5 points per game, the ninth-best average in the country, and recorded double-digit point totals in all but one contest.

Genesee played to a 23-10 overall record in 2014-2015, which included a Region III championship, District II championship and the first appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament in 12 years.

Mitchell plans to attend Division I Grambling State University in the fall on an athletic scholarship.
