BATAVIA, NY (03/31/2015)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College sophomore guard Ervin Mitchell (Brooklyn, NY) has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Men's Basketball All-American. Also named to the Region III All-Region First Team this year, Mitchell was named to the 2014-2015 All-American Second Team.

Mitchell played in and started 32 games this season for the Cougars and averaged 23.5 points per game, the ninth-best average in the country, and recorded double-digit point totals in all but one contest.

He led Genesee to a 23-10 overall record, which included a Region III championship, District II championship and the first appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament in 12 years.

"It's an honor to be named an All-American, but to be honest with you, this is what you expect for a kid that puts in the work like Ervin," said GCC head coach Terry George. "I'm proud of him and I'm sure he'll have continued success at his next stop."

Mitchell leaves GCC as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1476 points. He tallied 723 points in his freshman campaign and 753 points as a sophomore this year.

He becomes the 10th player in GCC men's basketball history to garner All-American honors.
