Model Alliance Responds to Andrew Cuomo's Resignation After Reports of Sexual Harassment

Push for Assembly, Incoming Governor Kathy Hochul to Pass Adult Survivors Act

NEW YORK, NY (08/10/2021) (readMedia)-- Earlier today, Andrew Cuomo resigned as New York Governor following last week's report from Attorney General Tish James detailing the Governor's abuse. The report found that the Governor broke state and federal laws, including unwanted touching and inappropriate comments with employees.

Sara Ziff, the Executive Director and Founder of the Model Alliance, issued the following statement in response:

"Andrew Cuomo resigned today and claimed he accepted responsibility for his actions. But the Assembly must move forward with their impeachment proceedings to truly hold him to account and affirm that powerful people who create a toxic work environment should not be tolerated in any workplace.

"This is a moment to show up for survivors, and the Assembly -- in addition to incoming Governor Kathy Hochul -- must respond by passing the Adult Survivors Act. The criminal justice system routinely fails survivors, rarely punishing abusers for their actions. That's why survivors need access to the civil courts through the ASA.

"We at the Model Alliance commend Lindsey Boylan, Charlotte Bennett, and the nine other women who came forward to share their stories, and we hold space for those who are unable to come forward at this time. We believe in the power of survivors coming forward as a collective to hold abusers accountable, and we appreciate Senator Alessandra Biaggi, Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou and the other lawmakers who've continued to stand with survivors."
