More than 300 Students Awarded 2018-2019 Scholarships at WKCTC

PADUCAH, KY (07/22/2018) West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) has awarded $550,000 in competitive, donor-funded scholarships for the 2018-2019 school year, college officials announced today.

"We are grateful to the generous donors who make scholarships possible," said Lee Emmons, vice president of institutional advancement and executive director of Paducah Junior College (PJC), the foundation that supports WKCTC. "Their contributions pass on the gift of education to hundreds of deserving students each year."

More than 300 students have been awarded scholarships for the academic year that begins in August at WKCTC. Additional students from McCracken County will receive scholarships through the Community Scholarship Program, a public-private partnership funded by the city of Paducah and McCracken County governments, the Rotary Club of Paducah, and corporate partners.

Dr. Anton Reece, WKCTC president, said each scholarship recipient is to be congratulated. "The hard work of these students has resulted in a scholarship award that isn't easy to receive. This is an accomplishment to be proud of, and we offer our hearty congratulations."

Selection of students for competitive scholarships is based on academic standards, a merit-based program of study, and other criteria specified by scholarship benefactors and is in addition to other sources of financial merit-based scholarship awards focus on high academic achievement, others emphasize additional factors affecting students, including scholarships for adult students and scholarships that encourage study in fields that meet area workforce needs.

"We encourage every student and potential student to apply for scholarships each year," said Emily Peck, WKCTC's vice president of student services. "We're fortunate to offer a range of scholarships you don't often find at two-year colleges, and we hope to continue increasing the number of scholarships available."

The primary WKCTC scholarship application opens each October and is available on the college website, with an application deadline of March 1 for the academic year that begins each August. Scholarships that require a separate application are distributed as they become available.
