SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Three local University of Scranton graduates were recognized for academic excellence and outstanding service by the Jesuit university at Commencement. The Morris County residents were among 67 honored graduates who earned some of the nation's most prestigious honors including Goldwater, Truman and Fulbright scholarships.
Laura Ann Cicirelli of Towaco, graduated summa cum laude from The University of Scranton and received the Excellence in Marketing Award.
Cicirelli majored in marketing with minors in operations management and philosophy at the Jesuit university. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta (the national honor society for first-year students), Alpha Sigma Nu (the honor society for Jesuit universities and colleges), Beta Gamma Sigma (the international honor society for business), Omega Beta Sigma (the women's business honor society) and Omicron Delta Epsilon (the international honor society for economics). Cicirelli has also received the Frank O'Hara Award for Academic Excellence multiple times in the University's Kania School of Management. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average throughout her years at The University of Scranton.
Cicirelli has been a freshman resident assistant, part of Leaders for a Brighter Scranton, and a recipient of the Student Affairs Recognition and University of Scranton Emerging Leaders awards. She has been a member of the University's pre-law society, debate team, business club, programming board, community outreach program, University ministries and VARIETAS (an organization devoted to diversity education). She has also been involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Cicirelli will enter Seton Hall Law School this fall to pursue her dream of becoming a corporate attorney.
Cicirelli graduated from Montville Township High School in Montville.
Alyssa Marie Studwell of Whippany, graduated magna cum laude from The University of Scranton and received the Excellence in Exercise Science and Sport Award.
Studwell majored in exercise science with a minor in counseling and human services and a concentration in nutrition at the Jesuit university. She is a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa (the national honor society for physical education) and Alpha Epsilon Delta (the national honor society for health professionals).
Cicirelli was a member of the exercise science club, the physical therapy club and worked as a trainer with the athletic teams at The University of Scranton.
Cicirelli will be entering the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at The University of Scranton this summer.
Studwell is a graduate of Whippany Park High School in Whippany.
Jacqueline Elizabeth Tyma of Lincoln Park, graduated cum laude from The University of Scranton and received the Excellence in Forensic Chemistry Award.
Tyma majored in forensic chemistry with minors in criminal justice and philosophy at the Jesuit university. She is a member of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program and Alpha Phi Sigma (the ntional honor society for criminal justice).
Tyma plans to pursue a career in a chemistry laboratory.
Tyma is a graduate of Morris County Vocational School of Technology's Academy for Law and Public Safety in Butler.
