SCRANTON, PA (07/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Brian McAvoy of Randolph and Emmanuel Akpan of Flanders were named orientation team leaders at The University of Scranton. They will lead more than 40 orientation assistants to help assimilate the 980 members of the Jesuit university's incoming class to college life.
At orientation sessions, incoming students complete chemistry, mathematics, foreign language and composition placement tests. They also meet academic advisors, attend presentations on support services and extracurricular activities, and participate in recreational and social activities.
McAvoy is a member of the University's class of 2013. He is pursuing a double major in accounting and philosophy and participates in the University's Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program. On campus, he serves as co-director of Royal Ambassadors, and is a member of Christian Life Communities, International Service Program, Society of Accounting Students, President Alumni Liaisons, and the President's Student Cabinet. McAvoy is a graduate of Randolph High School.
Akpan is a member of the University's class of 2014. He is majoring in neuroscience and participates in the Jesuit university's Honors Program. On campus he participates in the Health Professions Organization, Cura Personalis, The Examen, the Jane Kopas Women's Center and is a Royal PACT Facilitator. He also serves at a Leadership Programming Intern.
