NEW CONCORD, OH (04/02/2014)(readMedia)-- Muskingum University student Michael Klamo of Pickerington has been selected to present his research findings at the national Europe: East And West Undergraduate Research Symposium to be held at the University of Pittsburgh on April 11.

A junior history and political science major, Klamo will make a presentation titled, Whose Land is it Anyway: Contrasting Narratives of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Games, which makes a comparison of narratives about the Games from the radical Islamist "Caucasus Emirate" and the ultranationalist "Movement Against Illegal Immigration."

Klamo was nominated to make the presentation by Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. Richard Arnold. Klamo's work began on the project as a part of Dr. Arnold's Russian Foreign Policy class.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is an annual event that provides undergraduate students with advanced research experiences and opportunities to develop presentation skills. It is open to students from all majors and institutions who have written a research paper from a social science, humanities or business perspective, focusing on the study of eastern, western or central Europe, the European Union, Russia or other countries of the former Soviet Union.
