Myles Miller Honored With Two Creighton University History Awards

OMAHA, NE (04/20/2011)(readMedia)-- Myles Miller of Solon, a senior at Creighton University, received the Warren G. Kneer Award and the Fr. Alfred Kaufmann, S.J., Award at Creighton's Department of History Annual Honors Banquet, held on April 12. This year's banquet honored history students who excelled in their classes and were nominated by their professors.

The Warren G. Kneer Award honors Dr. Warren G. Kneer and the sense of service to Creighton University demonstrated by his career. Dr. Kneer taught history of the Civil War, the United States Consitution and American foreign policy for 25 years at Creighton. He served as department chair from 1982-1985 and retired in 1993. The award is designed to promote and reward extracurricular, history-related service within the department and the university and/or to public groups and organizations.

The Fr. Alfred Kaufmann, S.J., award honors Fr. Kaufmann, an instructor of European history at Creighton for over 20 years. Born in Switzerland, he started his Jesuit training before immigrating to the U.S. The award is presented to an undergraduate student enrolled in an upper-level history class for an outstanding paper in European history. The award promotes excellent writing as well as encourages the study of European history.
