NAHEC Hosts MASH Camp to Introduce Students to Health Care Careers at SUNY Canton

CANTON, NY (03/05/2026) (readMedia)-- Northern Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) successfully concluded its second annual SUNY Canton MASH Camp on Friday, February 20, welcoming 10 high school students from several local school districts across the region for a week of hands-on learning, career exploration, and real-world exposure to careers in healthcare.

"MASH Camp gives students a meaningful, hands-on introduction to healthcare careers while building confidence and practical skills." says Emily Ehrensperger, Center Director for Northern Area Health Education Center. "We're grateful to SUNY Canton for their partnership and to Assemblyman Scott Gray for taking the time to connect with students and support the next generation of healthcare professionals."

Held February 16–20 on the SUNY Canton campus, the day camp introduced students to a wide range of healthcare professions through interactive workshops, demonstrations, and presentations led by healthcare professionals from SUNY Canton and Clarkson University. Students explored career pathways including nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapist assisting, physician assisting, healthcare management, emergency medical services, and veterinary technology.

Throughout the week, students participated in hands-on sessions such as Narcan administration, Stop the Bleed and CPR training, suture practice, and a veterinary technology workshop. These immersive experiences allowed students to gain practical skills while learning directly from professionals working in the field.
