NCCAA Mid-East Region Honors Six Trevecca Trojans

NASHVILLE, TN (11/27/2012)(readMedia)-- The NCCAA Mid-East Region has announced the 2012 women's soccer All-Region team and a total of six Trojans were honored. Brooke Gann is the 2012 Mid-East Region Player of the Year and coach Brett Armstrong is the coach of the year.

Gann is joined on the 2012 Mid-East Region team by Bekah Headrick, Jordan Ponto, Kayla VanEs, and Erica Carroll.

Brooke Gann (sophomore, forward, East Ridge High School, Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the team with a school-record 12 goals this season and in her yet completed sophomore season is already third in career goals (20).

Bekah Headrick (senior, Aaron Christian Academy, Hendersonville, Tenn.) was a first Team G-MAC selection and the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Headrick led the conference in several statistical categories including goals against average (0.33) and shutouts (14).

Kayla VanEs (senior, forward, Hendersonville High School, Gallatin, Tenn.) is now fourth in career goals (19) and third in points (51).

Erica Carroll (junior, defender, Silverdale Baptist Academy, Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Jordan Ponto (sophomore, defender, Bradenton Christian School, Bradenton, Fla.) are a part of the defense that has a record breaking 15 shutouts and a stretch of six consecutive shutouts and another stretch of four.

Brett Armstrong was named the 2012 G-MAC Coach of the Year after leading the program to its best season in school history and its first conference regular season and tournament championship. After winning the G-MAC titles he led the Trojans to the 2012 NCCAA Mid-East Region championship and a berth to the NCCAA National Championships.

Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Nashville, Tenn., Music City, USA. Now in its 111th year, Trevecca is committed to educate "leaders and servants" through undergraduate and graduate education. Trevecca's athletic teams are in the second year of a three year transition to NCAA Division ll status. Trevecca fields 11 intercollegiate teams that compete in the newly formed NCAA Division ll Great Midwest Athletic Conferece.
