ALBANY, NY (01/28/2016)(readMedia)-- Noted for his distinguished career and pro bono service to the community, Norman Resnicow has been honored with the 2016 Attorney Professionalism Award by the Committee on Attorney Professionalism of the New York State Bar Association.
Resnicow, of New York City, received the award on January 28 in New York City during the State Bar Association's House of Delegates dinner.
"The Committee on Attorney Professionalism was most impressed by Norm Resnicow's long and distinguished career in transactional law and his lifetime of pro bono service to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) in its refugee resettlement services," said Lillian Moy (Legal Aid Society of Northeastern N.Y.), chair of the Committee on Attorney Professionalism.
Moy noted that, in a U.S. transaction for a foreign government-controlled major international corporation, Resnicow's due diligence uncovered internal fraud that could have cost the client more than $220 million.
"He effectively persisted-putting his personal position at risk-in going to the client's Board to enable them to abort the transaction," Moy said.
Resnicow, a partner at Fox Horan & Camerini, counsels non-U.S. clients, primarily from Europe and Asia, on establishing and expanding their U.S. operations. He also handles U.S. clients' local and national matters and assists in their cross-border transactions.
Resnicow has served HIAS, a 130-year-old international refugee rescue and resettlement agency in Silver Spring, Maryland, in many capacities. He served 37 years as a director and has also volunteered hundreds of hours as counsel to HIAS.
He also has served on the State Bar's committees on International Law and International Employment Law and is a member of its International Law Section. Resnicow has degrees from Yale College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Yale Law School.
The award recognizes a member who displays the highest standards of professionalism, commitment to promoting respect for the legal system, outstanding ethical conduct, competence, good judgment, integrity and civility.
The 74,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
