NY Air Guard's 174th Attack Wing hosts 5th Annual Runway 5 K on Saturday, August 1

HANCOCK FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SYRACUSE, NEW YORK (07/30/2026) (readMedia)-- The New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing, in partnership with the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority, will host its 5th Annual Runway 5K at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base on Saturday, Aug. 1. The event will bring together military members, families and community participants to promote physical fitness, resilience and esprit de corps.

WHO: Participants in the Runway 5K, leadership from the 174th Attack Wing, and military and civilian runners.

WHAT: The 174th Attack Wing's Runway 5K. The event will feature a competitive and recreational 5-kilometer race held on Hancock Field Air National Guard Base. The race is designed to promote physical readiness while strengthening connections between the New York Air National Guard and the local community.

WHEN: Reporters must arrive at the Hancock Field Air National Guard Base gate no later than 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1.

WHERE: Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, 6001 E. Molloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211.

Media Opportunity:

Reporters will have opportunities to capture imagery and video of runners participating in the race, the start and finish of the event, award presentations, interviews with race organizers and participants, and static MQ-9 aircraft displays.

BACKGROUND:

The 174th Attack Wing's Runway 5K is designed to encourage physical fitness, strengthen unit cohesion and foster engagement with the local community. The event brings together Airmen, family members and invited guests in support of the Air Force's emphasis on comprehensive fitness and readiness.

The 174th Attack Wing's primary mission is to operate the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft. In addition to operationally deploying the MQ-9 system, the wing hosts a Formal Training Unit that provides MQ-9 aircrew training and certification to MQ-9 pilots and sensor operators.

The 174th Attack Wing also oversees a field training detachment that provides MQ-9 maintenance training for U.S. and allied service members.
