NYISO Enhances Website With New Features

New User-friendly Features Include More Information for Consumers

RENSSELAER, NY (12/10/2015)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) today launched new features on its public website, www.nyiso.com, offering more user-friendly information for consumers as well as detailed information about New York's wholesale electricity markets and high-voltage electric grid.

The augmented website will deliver more information to the NYISO's wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, market participants, and the ultimate users of electricity–consumers.

"Since the inception of the NYISO in 1999, our organization has been committed to operating open, transparent and competitive energy markets that deliver real benefits to consumers, the economy, and the environment," said NYISO President and CEO Brad Jones. "Our website enhancements build upon that commitment by making information on the performance of the NYISO in delivering value for New York both more transparent and accessible."

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to transparency in how it operates, in the information it provides to the public, and in its role as an impartial broker of New York's wholesale electricity markets, the NYISO serves as an independent and unbiased source of information.

With more than 640,000 visitors this year, the NYISO website contains an abundance of information about the power grid and wholesale electricity markets in New York. Users will find the addition of new features, including new value metrics pages, enhanced budget transparency, and a real-time fuel mix chart.

Value Metrics

New sections of the website include value metrics that provide ongoing measurements of the NYISO's performance in key areas of its wide-ranging responsibilities relating to reliability, markets, planning, authoritative information, financial responsibility, and customer satisfaction.

Information on the site also reviews the NYISO's 15-year record since the restructuring of New York's electric industry by federal and state policymakers in the late 1990s.

Real-Time Fuel Mix

A new real-time view of the fuels being used to generate electricity in New York state is also now available on the NYISO site. The "fuel mix" display has been added to the section of the site that presents real-time data on the amount of electricity being used by consumers, dynamic price data, and information on power flows to and from the New York grid.

Centralized Budget Information

To enhance the transparency of budget and financial information, the website now includes a new NYISO budget page that provides a centralized location for information about the budget process, expenditure trends, and financial statements.

The site continues to present four major content sections. The About NYISO section has been substantially revised and updated to include the new value metrics section and updated material on the roles, history and performance of the NYISO. The other sections (Markets & Operations, Planning for the Future, NYISO Media Room) remain the same.
