RENSSELAER, NY (03/28/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) announced today the unanimous selection of Anastasia M. Song to its Board of Directors. Ms. Song will begin her term in April 2012.
The selection of Ms. Song was the result of the NYISO's stakeholder process in which representatives from each market sector conducted a nationwide search and recommended potential directors to the Board.
The NYISO Board is a diverse body comprised of members with backgrounds in the electric power industry, finance, academics, technology, communications and the law. The Board is required by the NYISO's federally approved tariffs to be independent.
"Anastasia Song's diverse background and experience in infrastructure finance, utility and power generation operations, engineering and technology will make her a valuable asset to our Board, and I look forward to working with her," said Bob Hiney, Chairman of the Board.
Ms. Song most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of The Haugland Group, LLC, a Plainview, N.Y.- based electrical and heavy civil construction company. Earlier in her career, she spent many years in investment banking and private equity focused on domestic and international infrastructure investments.
Ms. Song served for six years as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she chaired the Finance Committee of the Board. She currently serves as a member of the advisory board for McKissack & McKissack Inc., the oldest women and minority-owned professional design and construction firm in the United States and also has served as an original member of the NYISO's Consumer Advisory Council since its inception in 2011. As a member of the NYISO Board, she will relinquish that advisory role.
Ms. Song received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Bryn Mawr College and earned a Master of Business Administration in finance with honors from Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York.
The vacancy on the Board was created by the retirement of Richard E. Schuler, who will retire following the April meeting. Mr. Schuler was an original member of the Board and has served with distinction since November 1998.
"Dick Schuler has been an outstanding and inspirational leader on the New York ISO Board-serving as Lead Director and heading up the Market Performance, Reliability and Markets and Governance Committees," said Hiney. "His tenacious pursuit of excellence coupled with his deep understanding of power system and economic principles have guided the NYISO. We will all miss his outstanding leadership."
