RENSSELAER, NY (01/31/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) will offer two opportunities in March for individuals to learn more about New York's competitive wholesale electricity markets and power system operations.
On Thursday, March 1, 2012, the NYISO will offer an introductory Market Overview Course. Recommended for those with less than a year of energy industry experience, this course provides attendees with a general overview of all aspects of the wholesale electricity markets in New York and includes segments on power system operations, market pricing and power contracting.
The cost of this course is $400, with a government rate of $50. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
A more in-depth, four-day Market Orientation Course will be offered on March 6 – 9, 2012. This course is geared toward active or prospective participants in New York's wholesale electricity markets. Attendees will receive instruction in the purchase and sale of energy, capacity and related market products.
The registration fee for the Market Orientation Course is $1,450, with a government rate of $350. The fee covers the cost of the training sessions, materials and meals.
Since 1999, more than 4,676 visitors representing hundreds of companies and governments including 1,283 visitors from 65 nations around the world have toured the NYISO power control center and received briefings on grid operations, wholesale electricity markets and power system planning.
In the 2010 State of the Market Report, the NYISO's independent market monitor, Potomac Economics, noted, "The NYISO markets are at the forefront of market design and have been a model for market development in other areas."
