RENSSELAER, NY (12/17/2015)(readMedia)-- Today the New York State Public Service Commission announced a public policy need to upgrade certain sections of the state's high voltage transmission infrastructure. In response, New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) President and CEO Brad Jones offered the following comments:
"Today's decision is an important step in addressing the reality of our aging transmission infrastructure and strengthening the reliability of the electric system that is a vital foundation of our economy.
"The NYISO stands ready to solicit projects and will conduct the planning studies necessary to select the most efficient and cost-effective projects that will meet the public policy needs identified by the Commission.
"An upgraded, reliable and efficient transmission system is essential to realizing the energy goals of maximizing the use of renewable resources and meeting the emission reduction goals under the federal Clean Power Program. Further, upgraded transmission will support the growing use of distributed resources to enhance the flexibility and resilience of the system."
