NYSARC, Inc. Elects Schuppenhauer President

John A. Schuppenhauer is excited to lead an organization "of great diversity, great commonality, and of immeasurable strength"

DELMAR, NY (11/20/2010)(readMedia)-- NYSARC, Inc., the largest not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation supporting individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families, at a meeting of its Delegate Assembly elected John A. Schuppenhauer its 18th President. Mr. Schuppenhauer succeeds Katharine Wilson Conroy from Westchester County who served for four years.

Mr. Schuppenhauer is a parent of an individual who has a developmental disability. He is an attorney in private practice and also serves as a part-time City Court Judge in Canandaigua, New York where he resides with his wife Betsy and two daughters.

Mr. Schuppenhauer has been active in the Organization at both the statewide and local levels for nearly three decades. He has served on the NYSARC, Inc. Board of Governors representing the Ontario County Chapter, served as Senior Vice President and Vice President of the Western Region, Chaired the NYSARC, Inc. Legal Committee and Chaired the Committee to Review the NYSARC, Inc. Structure. He served as a member of numerous committees including, Legal, Budget and Finance, and Executive Committees. Mr. Schuppenhauer has served in the past as the President of the Ontario County Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. and is currently a member of the Chapter Board of Directors.

Mr. Schuppenhauer is very active in his local community serving as a volunteer on the Historical Society Board, Canandaigua Kiwanis Club, Canandaigua Area Chamber of Commerce, the American Heart Association, and is a member of his local church and volunteer fire department.

The Executive Director of NYSARC, Inc., Marc N. Brandt, upon the election of Mr. Schuppenhauer stated, "I have known Jack for many years and feel he clearly understands the volatile political climate we are now in and the many issues confronting our Chapters. While we are facing uncertain times, the membership of NYSARC, Inc. elected him as President because they are confident that he is the right person to lead the Organization in these perilous times."

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Schuppenhauer stated that he looks forward "to fostering and building upon relationships with our colleague organizations and continuing to impress upon the State the importance of our Organization and our cause, a message which will resonate throughout the State Capitol, and in every corner of the State." He further stated "We are an Organization of great diversity, greater commonality, and of immeasurable strength. But what sets us apart is that our wealth is measured not by the sum of our collective assets or in budgetary figures, but rather in the number of smiles we put on the faces of the individuals we support and their families. That is why we are NYSARC."
