NYSDOT Proposes Amendment to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program
Public Comments Will Be Taken This Month
ALBANY, NY (03/02/2012)(readMedia)-- New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today announced that the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for federal fiscal years 2011 through 2014 is being amended to include the department's Accelerated Bridge and Accelerated Pavement Preservation Programs. The STIP provides a list of all federally funded highway and transit projects.
"Governor Cuomo has made improving New York's transportation infrastructure a priority and securing federal funding is important to that effort," Commissioner McDonald said. "The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program is the way we outline our priorities for projects that rely on federal funding."
Earlier this year, Governor Cuomo laid out an economic development blueprint for the state, including the creation of the New York Works Fund, which will help create private sector jobs and rebuild New York's infrastructure. The plan for transportation includes two programs: an Accelerated Pavement Preservation Program and an Accelerated Bridge Program.
The STIP must be updated to reflect this new initiative. The STIP includes all federally funded projects planned for federal fiscal years 2011 through 2014, totaling more than an estimated $15.5 billion in federal funds.
Additions to the STIP will be available for public review and comment for 10 days, from March 2 through March 12, 2012. The additions can be found on the draft STIP Web page available on the NYSDOT website at: https://www.dot.ny.gov/programs/stip/draftstip.
Comments regarding the addition of these two programs to the STIP can be submitted online or in writing to: New York State Department of Transportation, Policy and Planning Division, Office of Policy, Planning and Performance, 50 Wolf Road, 6th Floor, Albany, NY 12232.
NYSDOT will address comments received on these programs as part of preparing its submission for amending the STIP. The amended document will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration for approval following the public comment period.
