ALBANY, NY (04/27/2026) (readMedia)-- On Tuesday, state lawmakers and advocates will rally at a gas station in Albany to demand Governor Hochul drop her reckless bid to weaken New York's Climate Law and focus on actually lowering energy bills instead of pushing expensive, volatile fossil fuels. The event will cap off more than a week of rallies at gas stations across New York State, including in New York City, Schenectady, Poughkeepsie, Westchester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Elmira, Ithaca, Kingston, and Rochester, to demand Hochul stop fearmongering and pushing to gut the Climate Law under the guise of "affordability."
Gas prices were already at an all-time high before the war in Iran caused them to skyrocket further, and 1 in 4 households already cannot afford their energy bills. But now, as prices hit new records with no end in sight, the Governor is trying to force state lawmakers to undermine the state's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and remain on expensive gas we can't afford.
Despite Hochul's posturing about the Climate Law, her proposal will do nothing to help the New Yorkers who are struggling to afford their energy bills right now - which the Governor herself has admitted! Now, New Yorkers are demanding she stand up for our Climate Law and do more to lower our energy bills.
