HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Hampden-Sydney College senior Nathan Thomas Parr presented his Departmental Honors Project recently in a public lecture at the College. Nathan is one of a select group of seniors who undertook an extended research project which culminated in a public presentation. Although the departmental honors students are undergraduates, they are expected to pursue their research project at a graduate-school level. Each project is evaluated on its originality, on the thoroughness of its research methods, and on the quality of the final presentation.

Nathan's project, for Honors in Psychology, was entitled "The Interaction of Pain Expectancy and Mood in Pain Tolerance."  A computer science and psychology major, Nathan is a graduate of Liberty High School and is the son of Rev. Jerry M. & Liz J. Parr of Bedford and grandson of Mr. & Mrs. C.J. Jones and Mrs. Audrey Weaver, all of Salem.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
