The Performance
"A wonderful hour of fantasy that combines ancient, wordless storytelling with modern technology and music." Theater Times
"An eye-popping display of storytelling that's like nothing else you've ever seen." Broadwayworld.com
Presented by Corbian Visual Arts and Dance in collaboration with Lightwire Theater, DiNO-LIGHT – best described as a child-friendly ballet of fantastical animals and dinosaurs – promises to delight audiences of all ages with its electroluminescent creatures and heartwarming original tale featuring fantasy, dance, storytelling, and technologically dazzling visuals.
DiNO-LIGHT tells the story of Professor Henslow, a famous scientist with magical powers who creates a wild and primitive dinosaur in his workshop. When the two become separated, DiNO meets many creatures – including a carnivorous tyrannosaurus, a pair of friendly long-necked birds, and a school of fish; learns something new about himself and the world around him; and ultimately discovers the true meaning of love. The story comes to life when performed to atmospheric music and sound by a talented troupe of dancers/puppeteers, who suit up in black before being covered in lightwire (illuminated neon-colored wire) to conjure up the creatures appearing on the darkened stage.
Corbian Visual Arts and Dance in collaboration with Lightwire Theater burst onto the American theater scene during Season 7 of NBC's hit television show, America's Got Talent. The company was eliminated during the semi-finals, despite receiving a standing ovation from the audience and judges Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, and Howard Stern. "You're going to the finals," Mandel exclaimed. "That was spectacular in every sense of the word," Osbourne gushed. Stern added, "No disappointments here. ... That's a million dollar act."
The troupe has since presented its cutting edge blend of puppetry, technology, and dance to audiences all over the world. It is the brainchild of creators/choreographers/directors Ian Carney and Corbin Popp, whose menagerie of life-size creatures created out of squiggles of lightwire have been described by critics as "elegant sketches," crayon-like," and "light drawings."
