The Performance
"It's not just the superb design work and eye-popping special effects that make Enchantment Theatre's shows unique. Beautifully choreographed, the company's productions effectively mix mime and dance into a stylized ballet of color and sound that entrances both the kids and their adult companions." Philadelphia Weekly
Philadelphia-based Enchantment Theatre Company has produced original family theater based on classic children's literature since 2000. Through its signature performance mix of masked actors in stunning costumes, pantomime, large-scale puppets, and original music, Enchantment Theatre has become known for high quality imaginative productions, which it has toured throughout the United States and Far East.
Aladdin and Other Enchanting Tales introduces the audience to the storyteller heroine Scheherazade, who delights her Sultan with nightly narratives of romance and adventure: Aladdin and the mystical lamp, Sinbad's travels to distant lands, Ali Baba and a group of thieves, and more. These magical stories featuring delightful characters – a genie, princesses, wizards, giants, a dragon, and fantastical creatures – transform the Sultan, who, by becoming the hero of each tale, discovers his capacity to forgive and love.
Although created for children, Aladdin and Other Enchanting Tales will appeal to adults as well. The modern telling of classic fables about the kindness of strangers and the triumph of good over evil is set to evocative, original music inspired by famed Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, who wrote the symphonic suite, Scheherazade.
