Nazareth College Named FInalist on 2015 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

ROCHESTER, NY (10/06/2016)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College is one of only four colleges nationwide named a finalist on the 2015 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in the Interfaith Community Service category. The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise the visibility of effective practices in campus community partnerships.

Nazareth was honored as a finalist in the Interfaith Community Service category for its service programs that foster meaningful relationships among community members of differing faiths and background. Nazareth was recognized for its commitment to experiential interfaith education as reflected in two creative programs that are offered to the next generation of interfaith leaders, at Nazareth and in the Rochester community. The Interfaith Journey Series, which is sponsored primarily by the Center for Spirituality, provides experiential interfaith education for college students at Nazareth. The Global Citizenship Immersion, which is sponsored by the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue (at Nazareth), provides experiential interfaith education for high school students in the Rochester area. Both programs are focused on the education of young people, who are coming of age in a religiously pluralistic world that demands cross-cultural understanding for success.

There are four categories for the honor roll: general community service, interfaith community service, economic opportunity, and education. Nazareth was also named a finalist in the Economic Opportunity category in 2014. Nazareth College was one of five colleges nationally named as a Presidential Awardee in the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to community service and civic engagement. Nazareth College has been named to the honor roll since its inception in 2006.

In addition to being one of four finalists in the Interfaith Community Service category, Nazareth was named to the "with distinction" category of the Honor Roll for the other three categories of the Honor Roll. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has administered The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor roll since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and the Interfaith Youth Core.

CNCS is a federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America programs, and leads President Barack Obama's national call to service initiative, United We Serve. For more information, visit NationalService.gov.
